Today our chapter honors the life, service & ultimate sacrifice made for our freedoms by Brother David Bowen.World War II Veteran & Alabama Beta Brother Private First Class David Bowen, U.S. Army Reserve, 25, made the ultimate sacrifice in France while serving in the 314th Infantry Regiment (IR), 79th Infantry Division during the Allied Rhineland Campaign. Based on the combat operations of the 314th IR, David was likely killed near Rohrwiller, France while defending the Maginot Line during the German offensive Operation Norwind. Brother Bowen was the 198th initiate of the AL Beta chapter, and a member of the Class of 1944 at The University of Alabama. For his bravery and service Brother Bowen was awarded the Purple Heart. Brother Bowen was an American patriot who embodied what Sig Ep stands for.
